When I think of the word priorities this phrase comes to mind…if you have seen Harry Potter I am sure you appreciate the humor…now lets be serious….
As a woman, wife, mom, and daughter of The Most High; we are always struggling with this word “priorities.” We struggle to have enough time to be super hero’s and do it ALL…let me be that friend for a second…You cannot do it all. It can’t happen. You can try and you will be miserable while you do.
So now that we have established that let’s dive into making priorities.
God taught me a lesson about my priorities (or as I learned in Bible study this week…God allowed me to be sifted) two years ago after a bad car accident. It really created an earthquake in my world, it took down some idols I had created on my priority list. Everything pretty much stopped…God cleared my plate…literally emptied it of everything. As I recovered from the accident I had to decide what went back on my plate. I spent the next few weeks staring at scars and bruises as a constant reminder of what happened, I looked at my son and was reminded that if the van in front of me had not slowed me down things could have been so very different. Sometimes God allows us to get a glimpse of what could be in order to teach us where we need to be.
I had been through things that brought my world down but this was something totally different. I could see that there was something God was deliberately doing in my life to show me that I was headed in the wrong direction. No I wasn’t doing anything bad, but I wasn’t doing much for Him.
Here is where the rubber meets the road…what are you doing right now? Are you piling your plate so high with projects, work, extra activities, maybe even several different ministries at church, plus home, children, husband, etc? Do you find yourself more overwhelmed than overjoyed? Then there is a good chance that your need to sort out your priorities.
Your plate only has room to hold so much…
The first thing on your plate should be JESUS…your time with Him, bible study, prayer, etc. Jesus is first. (Matthew 6:33)
The second thing is your handsome hubby and your precious kiddos…(if your a single gal just skip on down to the next, but one day you will need to remember this!)
The third thing is your ministry calling, God has given each of us a spiritual gift and a ministry. Whether you are at home with your children everyday or you work in a busy office. You have a ministry calling. In my life my ministry calling first a foremost is my children and homeschooling. Everything else comes after that first ministry calling. God has placed you where you are with a purpose and a reason and we should seek to serve Him fully in everything that we do.
After those three you get to decide what goes on your plate…your plate will not look the same as mine. You may have a different ministry, maybe your a single woman, maybe you are still in school which should be on your priority list. My rule: If it doesn’t make those three strong then its not a priority…If it doesn’t fit, I can’t commit.
