Isaiah 53: 5 “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.”
Can you close your eyes and imagine what it might have been like to be a First Century Christian? Can you imagine that many of them heard first hand from a disciple what happened to Jesus, many of them saw the ministry of Jesus with their own eyes, and many of them watched Jesus carry His own cross up to Golgotha? First Century Christians had a front row seat to prophecy unfolding right before their eyes.
The whole purpose of Easter is the celebration of Jesus’ resurrection, to celebrate His triumph over the grave and the promise that God made fulfilled. What Jesus did was no small or easy task, it was a punishment that He took for you and I. Every ounce of our sin was put on Him, not just the sins of the First Century Christians but for all humanity for all time. As Easter approaches let’s keep our eyes on the magnitude of what Christ did on the cross.
