Reading Psalm 119:33-48
A few years ago my daughter was starting school and as a family embarking on homeschooling, it was, well…terrifying. Every single doubt began to appear; can I do this? Can I actually teach her? I can attest that it wasn’t always easy but it is very rewarding to see how far she has come.
Maybe you don’t homeschool… maybe you are teaching your co-workers, maybe you are a school teacher with a classroom full of children, a bible study teacher, or maybe you are a mama who is teaching your children everyday by your example.
What if we flipped the picture, what if we are not teaching, but we are the ones being taught? Taught by God.
Look at Psalm 119:33-37 and circle in your Bible or write down the first statement or petition of each verse; (teach me, give me understanding, direct me, turn my heart, turn my eyes). Each one is a petition or a request of God. Think back to the prayer you wrote on day three… when we sit down for time with God, if we don’t pray and ask of God before we study then we are using our own efforts.
Philippians 4:6 – a commonly used verse about prayer, but it says make your petitions known to God…Sister, ask Him! When we sit down to study and we feel intimidated or unqualified — ask God. When we read a passage we don’t understand — ask God. When our lives, hearts and eyes need a new direction — ask God.
When we ask, the spirit is ready and willing to teach us something incredible every day.
Psalm 119:45 gives the Psalmists testimony of what happens when he earnestly sought God’s Word… “I will walk at liberty.” He is walking in freedom because he has fully sought the Word of God. Do we walk in freedom? He has freedom to share God’s truth with others and not be ashamed…because his delight is in the law of God whom he loves. God has taught him truth; God has turned his heart and eyes to His Word, because he asked Him. The Psalmists love for the Word is so great that it drips from every word of Psalm 119. He has fallen in love with the Word of God….Have you?
