Reading Psalm 119:81-96
Has anyone ever made a promise to you, but failed to keep it? We have all at one point or another failed to keep a promise to someone, or someone has let us down…some of us may still be waiting on a promise to be fulfilled.
The Word of God makes incredible promises to us, promises of hope and a future with Christ.
We long for the promises of God just as the Psalmist did. We long for them because we know they are certain and faithful. We know His promises are secure and will never leave us disappointed.
Our days can leave us a bit broken down and a little weary, but we can still have joy because of the promises of God. We can still smile even when life gets difficult because we rely on a faithful God to revive our hearts, revive our spirit and give us rest.
We stand on the promises that God gives without fear, with full confidence because He has promised it and He who promised is faithful (Hebrews 10:23).
Romans 8:28 says, He works things together for the good of those who love Him. He promised that even the difficulties will work for good for the kingdom of God, though we may not be able to see it.
Revelation 21:4 says, He will wipe every tear, give comfort to our grief and the sorrows of this life.
More than all of these incredible promises is 1 John 1:9, the promise that if we confess our sins, He is faithful to forgive. The promise that our sins are forgiven and removed from us by our powerful God is the greatest promise. The promise that through His forgiveness we are made the righteousness of God (2 Corinthians 5:21).
The Psalmist declared the promises of God to be faithful in Psalm 119:86…He declared them as trustworthy. Not only did he declare them as faithful and trustworthy but he declared them as everlasting. We don’t trust the promises of God because they are temporary, we trust them because God’s truth is everlasting. Psalm 119:89, God’s Word is eternal. Every generation will see God’s faithfulness, not just those who were mentioned in scripture, but you and I my sweet sister will see the faithfulness of God’s promises.
The faithfulness of His eternal promises keep us going, keep us strong when we feel incredibly weak, and give us light when life is dark.
The Psalmist in Psalm 119:92 saw in his life, without his love for the Word of God, he would have been beaten down and destroyed by the trails he faced. God’s promises anchored him in hope, anchored him in truth, and protected him from the coming waves. Sister…that is available to us as well.
