Reading Psalm 119:113-128
It seems almost daily there is no place to hide from bad news. The TV is filled with it; social media is filled with it…bad news seems to follow us everywhere. Some seek refuge by not turning on the news or social media at all…if you don’t know the bad news than it must not be there right?
There is no place to hide from the bad stuff…the bad news will still be there even if we try to hide from it.
We long for refuge. God is our refuge; He is our hiding place.
Trouble and bad news have always been around…even from the beginning in the garden. Could you imagine the news headlines for that one? There never has been and probably never will be a time when the world headlines will not weigh us down, but we have a refuge.
As children of God, evil and sin, even the sin in our lives, should break our hearts. Sometimes we do a really good job at wagging our finger at someone else but forget that we are just as broken, just as sinful. Bad news isn’t just reserved for the headlines…bad news happens when we fail to do what God has said.
We have a refuge, a hiding place…a place where forgiveness can be found when we bring our brokenness to Jesus.
The Psalmist knew that even with the evil around him there was refuge…a shield of protection. We have access to God as His children, access that protects our minds and our hearts.
He is our refuge and shield.
