Reading Psalm 119:129-144
I would consider myself a pretty simple girl. My husband may disagree with this, but I am pretty easy to please. Give me coffee and I will be happy. I am not a fan of anything complicated; big words scare me and I love when everyone in my house is laughing: simple.
I am not a mathematician, Bible scholar, or linguistics expert. There is not a Nobel Prize hanging on my walls, no metals or trophies. It took five years to get my undergraduate degree because I couldn’t decide on a major: simple.
There are days when I wonder if I am smart enough to sit and write, am I smart enough to sit with God’s Word and then share with you what He has placed upon my heart? There are times before I get up to speak or teach when I cannot help but think how unqualified I am.
Sister, let me tell you…God has qualified you. He has equipped you with every ounce of what you need to study, lead women in Bible study and share the Gospel with the world. Your Father God has equipped you. (2 Timothy 3:17)
The Psalmist in Psalm 119: 130 says, the unfolding of His Words give light, the unfolding of His Words give understanding to the simple. He will give understanding; the Spirit of God will unfold Scripture for us as we read and study….no degree required. The only prerequisite to gaining understanding is that we actually sit down to study God’s Word. That we make time to open our Bibles everyday and ask God to teach us, ask Him for the Spirit to fill our hearts and minds with His truth.
When we are established in the Word, when we are in love with the teachings of God, when we surround our hearts and minds with His Word…then we are given refuge. When the difficult moments come we have a shelter; the Spirit will remind us what the Word of the Lord says. We will remember that we have been equipped (2 Tim. 3:17), that all things work together for good (Romans 8:28), that even when we are afraid we can trust Him (Psalm 56:3), and His precious mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 22-23).
My friend the Lord is waiting for you to open His Word and let Him speak life into you. Stop listening to the world’s “cant’s” and start listening to God’s “cans”.
