Bible Reading: John 3:16-17
Jesus gave us His entire Gospel message in just one verse – John 3:16. It is a familiar verse we have heard so many times and it even may be one that you know by heart. But do you fully grasp what it means? I want to take apart this verse with you today, and honestly look at what God is revealing to us in this incredible passage. Without it there would be no Christmas.
“For God so loved the world…” God’s love is incredible. God is the One who shows us what true love really is and how to live it out in our daily lives. His love for us is far beyond explanation, but undeniable in its intensity and purity. From the beginning of time He designed a plan to rescue us from death and destruction and to redeem us to Himself for eternity.
“that he gave his only begotten Son…” God sent Jesus, fully God and fully man, to walk the earth and become the ultimate sacrifice for rebellious mankind. He was the payment for our sinfulness. Jesus took our punishment when we should have paid the price. His mercy was so great that He willingly gave His life for you and me. His death, however, wasn’t the end of the story because after three days Jesus arose victoriously to life.
“that whosoever believeth in him…” This invitation is not limited to certain groups of people, but is open and available to ANYONE who will accept it. There are no mistakes when God reaches out His hand to you and offers this gift. It doesn’t matter what you have done or where you have been. You are never too awful or too messed up for Him. Our loving Father stands ready to forgive and love just as He always has.
“will not perish but have everlasting life.” Our greatest hope is ultimately Heaven. Eternal life is the reward of accepting Christ and His Salvation. Death isn’t a closed door for His children but an open gate to forever with Him.
What about the ultimate Gift, the one you can’t wrap and is completely free? This eternal Gift came straight from heaven and is available to you right now. What better way to celebrate Christmas than accepting the perfect and ultimate gift of Salvation.
Have you ever accepted the beautiful gift of a relationship with Jesus that will transform your life? If you have not, today could not be a more perfect day. In humble sincerity say this prayer with me;
Lord, I am a sinner, lost and broken. Please forgive me of my sin against you and transform my life through your Son, Jesus, who died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead. Lord, I give you my life, use me for your kingdom purpose. Thank you for loving me and saving me Lord. In the name of your precious Son, Jesus, Amen.
