Bible Reading: Matthew 2:1-12, Matthew 5:14-16
I sat with our oldest son the other evening, cuddled underneath our new favorite blanket. As we watched one of our Christmas favorites, the original Grinch cartoon, my five year old asked this question at the end of the movie after the Grinch had taken all of their decorations, all of their gifts and even their Christmas meal…”How can they still celebrate? The Grinch took Christmas away.”
A lesson I wondered if I also needed to hear. Christmas will come regardless of what is under our tree or on our tables. Christmas will still be Christmas even if there were no decorations filling our homes. Christmas can’t be purchased or created…Christmas is all about Jesus.
The wise men sought Jesus because of the prophecy, they sought Him in order to worship Him. When we think of Christmas we certainly love the traditions, the decorations, the meals…but we cannot forget that Christmas is all about Jesus. In this season of Advent I pray you have taken time to kneel at the feet of Jesus to worship Him simply for who He is and what He has done. I pray that your hearts are filled with the immeasurable peace of the Almighty.
Family Activity: Make a delicious Christmas trail mix and package them in mason jars for your church staff.
