Let me just start by saying that if you have a daughter in your home…Let us be very diligent to PRAY for them…Our jobs are HUGE and our time is small. To think that I only have one who will walk out my doors in about 10 years, I think of my friends who have 3 or 4 girls that are under their roof. I also think about the sweet girls in my high school small group who I have watched grow into young beautiful women, I honestly love them as if they were my own children…some spend time under my roof and the job is the same to PRAY, to train, to lead them to Jesus in all areas of their lives.
My heart has been so burdened as I have watched my daughter grow and as I have watched these youth girls grow up before my eyes…what are we sending them out into? Are they ready to face all of this? Are they equipped fully to stand? Are they prepared to get married and have their own families one day? Do they study God’s word? Do they serve in the church? Are they fully connected to the Lord in a way that they are sensitive to His spirit and to His call? Even with all those questions there is one vital question that comes before all of that…Does your girl have a personal relationship with Jesus? All those questions hinge on this one question. What about you mom? Do you have a relationship with Christ that you can model to your girl? One that she sees lived out in front of her, in the way that you raise her, speak to her, love her. Does she see you study the precious word of God?
I won’t lie this book scared me…especially seeing how much has changed even in the 3 years since it was written. Our girls are bombard with incredible pressures and MESS. I am pretty sure that she covered every topic I could possible think of. Here is the table of contents for you…you can see what I mean just from the chapter titles…

I don’t want to go into to much detail about each chapter but if you are a Mother of girls you need to have this book in your hands, with a high lighter, pen or pencil, tissues, and probably some candy to soften the blow. After reading some of the chapters I really was left feeling like I had been punched in the gut. Mom listen to me…we have to know what we are equipping our girls for! We have to know what we need to be preparing them for…we cannot just pretend that none of these things will affect them. They need us…our job is so important.
I will leave you with this quote from the end of Chapter one…Let’s start a new movement for the sake of our children…
” My daughter will be taught that everyone have a huge, gaping hole within their heart that can only be satisfied by the perfect love of Jesus Christ. She will be reminded that Jesus liberated all women more than two thousand years ago when He died on the cross for our sins. His movement never has been and never will be quenched as it continues to spread to every corner of the world. As a leader, Jesus is credible, reliable, and has a glowing list of references that attest to His life-changing power. He doesn’t change the rules to match the times. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. My daughter will be encouraged to keep these truths in mind as she encounters other young ladies who have fallen prey to the negative influences of the culture and have attempted to fill the huge holes in their hearts with anything but the unfailing love of God. Wow, it almost sounds as if I am suggesting that Christian women need to start a new women’s movement.” – Vickie Courtney, Your girl
