Genesis 23:9-14 & Matthew 7:25-34
It is certainly hard to believe that we are entering into Thanksgiving week…a week where many of us will gather around the table with our families and share a meal that leaves us looking for our slippers and sweat pants. Maybe as you sit around your table as a family everyone takes turns saying what they are thankful for, reflecting on the goodness of God through out the year, or even giving thanks for the difficult times that God has brought you through. No matter the list of things that we are thankful for we can’t neglect God’s provision.
God provides peace in the storms,
Grace and Mercy in our messes,
Comfort when we are hurting,
Love when we are broken,
Food when we are hungry,
Clothes when we are without.
“The Lord is our provider – Jehovah Jireh” God provides our every need, even if we don’t realize at that moment that we needed it. He never fails to provide. Yes God provides all of those things but he provided something even greater than bread for our table; he provided the bread of life in his precious son Jesus. He provided not just grace, mercy, love, and comfort…he provided a way; a way that leads directly to him, he provided a solution, a gift, a sacrifice once and for all. When Abraham laid his son on the altar, his only son…we get a glimpse of what God had planned. God showed that he would provide the perfect sacrifice for all of us, for all time. Let us not forget to be thankful for Jehovah Jireh.
