I treasure my time in God’s word and sometimes like all of us we wonder were to begin. I shared this a few weeks ago at our opening Bible study session and I wanted to share with you. The focus that I long for when I sit down to study can sometimes fall short, sometimes I loose my thought and don’t know what to study next. As we have studied in the Open your Bible study we see how much value it is to open God’s word and breath it in. These are the 4 things I do in my quiet time as I approach God’s word. Maybe some of these will help you in your quiet time.
- Prayer- The first thing I do in the morning is pray, if I want my day to be fruitful, my attitude in the right place, and my mind ready to receive what He has for me in His word then I have to start off in Prayer.
- Daily Reading – I usually read one chapter each day, write down any verses that stand out of truths that God may be teaching me that day. If there is scripture I don’t understand I make a note of that to so I can pray about it, and dig further in my Bible dictionary or commentary.
- Extra studies- Usually on Mondays I review my sermon notes if I took them, I will work through any Bible study materials I may be working on or Christian books I may be reading.
- Illustrate- Bible Journaling plays a big part in how I study God’s word. It seals in truths that I have learned.
There is no perfect strategy to study God’s word and these 4 things may not work well for you in your study time but remember to not just read God’s word but write the truths that God is teaching you as well. Do you have a specific way you approach God’s word? Maybe specific things that you like to do in your quiet time?
