For some reason, probably one only the Holy Spirit knows, I wanted to write about these verses during this season of Lent. While I am sure after reading them you are thinking this really doesn’t have much to do with the resurrection of Jesus, but it does have everything to do with exactly who we are and exactly who Jesus is.
We know very little about the woman from scripture, all we know is that she had a bleeding disorder for 12 years. Scripture tells us that the crowd was so bad around Jesus they could have crushed Him, thats a lot of people. This precious woman knew she had to get to Jesus. The verse says that she touched the hem of His robe which could have likely meant that she was crawling on the ground through the crowd to get to Jesus. She was willing to do anything just to touch Him, and just to be healed. The woman knew that she had no other chance of healing without Jesus. We are just like that woman…we have no chance of healing spiritually or physically without Jesus. She was desperate for Jesus…are we?
She was willing to do whatever it took to get to Him, she was likely willing to crawl the ground just to touch the hem of His robe. Are we willing to do anything to desperately seek after Jesus? We value our precious time, our sleep, or television shows, our cell phones…we feel lost without them, but are we willing to push them aside and make Jesus a priority and seek after Him desperately no matter what it takes?
Her desperately seeking Jesus wasn’t the end of these verses. Jesus knew He had healed someone who touched His robe, He says I know power has left me…where did it go? All of the crowd around Him bumping into Him and pressing against Him…it wasn’t any of them…why? Because the person who touched Him, touched Him in faith….when we seek desperately after Jesus we are seeking Him in faith, just like this woman. She sought Jesus in faith that He was the Messiah who could heal her. When we open up the precious and valuable Word of God daily, we are desperately seeking after Jesus, to know Him more, to love Him more. Let’s do whatever it takes daily to seek after Jesus and touch the hem of His robe.
