Our spiritual life comes with seasons, sometimes those season begin with grief or trials, sometimes the seasons are filled with sunshine and an abundance of happiness. Then there are seasons of leaning on God, seasons of learning and being taught by the spirit. In a season of learning… in order to learn we have to fully lean on the spirit.
There is no doubt God has called me to write, speak, share the beautiful gospel and the power of God’s incredible word. As God has built this ministry the Holy Spirit has been hard at work in me; scrubbing, humbling, leading and teaching. It can be difficult to be taught, refined and humbled, but I know each of these things are taking place because of the season I am in. Just like every season-this season is preparing me for the next season of ministry and this calling God has given to me.
The Holy Spirit brought these verses to mind; there is a season for everything. As each season prepares us for the next we have to remember a valuable lesson that Paul shared in Acts 20:24 – his life was not his to do as he pleased and neither is ours. To many times our pride quickly pops up and keeps us from learning incredible lessons, it keeps us from absorbing and using wise counsel and wisdom from someone who knows better. Our pride keeps us from learning from the Spirit when He opens our eyes to truths we know He has placed there to teach us. This is where Paul’s lesson can be applied…our pride leaves us helpless, lacking wisdom and falling short. God didn’t give us the life we have or save us to leave us to our own devices, our lives belong to Him.
No matter our age or our season we are always learning but there are seasons of greater learning, we learn from the Holy Spirit, we learn our direction and how to get there. Have you ever had a season of learning? A season where the Holy Spirit shows up again and again revealing incredible truths and our greatest needs. Don’t allow pride to put a hold on what this beautiful season is teaching you.
