It seems every morning this week my social media is plastered with the sweetest back to school pictures…children holding pinterest inspired signs…some with awkwardly more information about your kids then should be allowed in the parenting rule book, but that is a conversation for another day. Whether they are off to public, private or home school there is no doubt that the school year is cranking up once again.
We are back to the classroom with lots of money spent on school supplies and calendars filled to the brim with activities, but for moms and dads that’s not why we are losing sleep at night. We are worried about our kids…we are afraid of what they will face every day.
The greatest place we can put our efforts is not only teaching them truth but praying over them…
Isaiah 62:6-7 (NLT)
“O Jerusalem, I have posted watchmen on your walls;
they will pray day and night, continually.
Take no rest, all you who pray to the Lord.
Give the Lord no rest until he completes his work,
until he makes Jerusalem the pride of the earth.”
When it comes to praying for our children we should give the Lord no rest, just as the Old Testament prophet told Jerusalem to do. As His loved children He is faithful to hear our prayers when our hearts are set right before Him.
Take these 5 Prayers for Back to School, print them out and pray them daily over your precious children…give the Lord no rest as you pray.
- Guidance (Psalm 25:5, Psalm 139:9-10)
God, show my family your ways and teach us. Guide us in your incredible truth as we head out each day. Guide us as we seek to fully live for you and display your love to those around us. Help my children to be a light wherever they are, guide every step they take Lord. We know God no matter where we go that your hand will be there to guide, strengthen and support us.
- Wisdom (James 1:5, 1 Cor. 1:30)
God, we know in your Word that when we lack wisdom you have instructed us to ask. I ask God that you give my children wisdom for every situation that may come their way today. Every difficult question, every challenge…give them wisdom to respond in truth, in confidence and with love and respect.
- Protection (Psalm 32:7, Deut. 3:18)
God, you go before us. We know you will never leave or abandon us and we know that we are sheltered in your protection. God, today I pray you wrap your arms around my children. I know you will personally go before them and that you will not leave them. In this scary world I pray Lord, protect my children.
- Friendships (Proverbs 17:17, Proverbs 18:24)
God, Friendships are hard. I pray that you bring the right friends into the lives of each of my children. I pray that you bring people who will encourage, uplift and speak life into them. Bring friends who will love them at all times, but God also teach my children how to be great friends. Teach them how to encourage and uplift their friends, show them how to speak truth in love to their friends. Give them wisdom to know God when they have found the right friends.
- Leadership (Psalm 112:4, Psalm 143:10)
God, I pray my children will be leaders for you in the classroom and at every activity. I pray they lead and be a light in the darkness around them, but not only that God I pray for those who will lead them…their teachers. God give them wisdom to be the greatest teacher for my child, help them to lead my child in accordance with your will God.
