I had the pleasure of meeting Nicki at She Speaks this year…I heard her speak and God worked through her message in my heart right where I was that morning, in the overwhelmed and impossible feelings that I was reeling from. God knew that this was the message that I needed to hear before I could leave She Speaks.
When I met Nicki I am sure I sounded like a crazy person with tears in my eyes telling her how much I needed the message she shared…I purchased her book 5 Habits of a Woman Who Doesn’t Quit, ready to dive in and allow it to sink deep….ready for more of the message she shared that morning.
Within a week of leaving She Speaks I had completed the book…left it a little tattered, highlighted and written in to the point that no one will ever be able to borrow this book. This message spoke deep to the places of my heart. The places that has thrown papers in the air and said, “I quit, I can’t do this…I have no idea what God was thinking…”
All too often when we are faced with a new and difficult task, we are tempted to quit and walk away. Using lessons from the book of Ruth, the author unpacks incredible habits of this amazing woman and how God used her obedience and willing heart.
These five habits will mess you up in the best possible way…they will help root and plant you in obedience rather than cower from the challenges that we find ourselves in. It is not often that I find a book that unravels me the way this one did.
As a writer I have learned to become a better reader…a reader to who draws from words of others deep into my heart. In this new season of ministry finding books that speak life into my calling is where I am drawn…I am looking for books that encourage my steps and feed my heart. I have found that in writers who are walking a similar calling because, in their written word I can see what God has taught their heart.
The writer gives you an honest look at her journey of being a “quitzilla.” Her struggle will encourage you to commit and follow through on what God has planned for you. As she travels through each of the five habits from Ruth it is easy to imagine in your own life where each of these pieces fit together.
This is absolutely a must read!
