Anyone else struggle to say no? Any people pleasers in the room? Let’s just go ahead and raise our hands…I will raise mine if you will.
I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings. I want to help everyone I can. If I don’t do it myself, it will never get done. Any of these raising some red flags in your mind?
Oh I totally get it. I am the queen of never saying no…that was until I learned a very valuable lesson. The lesson that I cannot and should not say yes to everyone, and in fact God has asked me many times to say no.
Saying no is a lot harder than we think. It can ruffle feathers, tasks can go uncompleted, etc.
Saying no isn’t about that, when we are embracing God’s pace it sometimes means saying no to things that are not our callings and things that we cannot fully devote the time it deserves.
So let’s get practical…5 things to consider before you say yes or no
- Does it fit into the calling that God has given you?
- Will it take time away from your family?
- Is it a task you are good at?
- Is this something that someone else can do?
- Do you want to do the task?
That last question sounds so silly but I cannot tell you how many times I have had said yes to something that I had no desire to do! So think before you say yes, ask these questions. Remember embracing God’s pace sometimes means saying no.
